This would be solved very easily if ChronoSync natively supported dropbox and it's API, like it currently does for Google cloud storage or iCloud, but they haven't implemented that as of yet. This ultimately means that if files are replaced on your external hard drive by versions in dropbox during the sink process, those files will be corrupted on the hard drive, because they are looking for their online counterparts in dropbox which don't exist on your hard drive. If it isn't, ChronoSync will sync only the fake dropbox placeholders for the files, and not grab the actual contents of the files/folders. In order for everything to work correctly, anything that sinks from dropbox to somewhere else via ChronoSync needs to be always off-line. The short answer is yes, but the longer answer is it's a little complicated, because ChronoSync doesn't understand that dropbox can have online and off-line files. #Chronosync move files how to#
People sometimes ask me how to backup their iCloud data. Second the ability to backup files from iCloud. Files synchronized to iCloud will propagate to all other devices that you have associated with that same Apple ID for easy access. First, the ability to synchronize directly to iCloud storage.
#Chronosync move files archive#
In addition to custom Archive locations ChronoSync 10 features the Archive Mover which can be used to relocate an archive to another volume and the Archive Maintainer which easily manages the Archive so it doesn’t consume too much space.ĬhronoSync 10 contains direct iCloud support which is two features in one. Maintain a backup on one device and the archive on another. The main benefit is that an Archive can be placed on a different volume to maximize storage capacity.

Now ChronoSync can maintain an Archive in a different location than the destination.

Previously ChronoSync maintained an archive of deleted and older files on the same volume as the destination. This approach creates bootable backups that are straightforward and easy to maintain.ĬhronoSync 10 offers custom Archive locations. Once the full system clone is made, ChronoSync will only handle the Data volume in subsequent syncs. ChronoSync 10 takes advantage of Apple’s APFS replication utility (called ASR) to create a cloned image on the destination volume. It ignored the System volume and could only sync the Data volume which was a less than ideal scenario. ChronoSync’s approach to creating bootable backups on Big Sur was a bit cumbersome.

Starting with Big Sur you could no longer copy the System volume. Since Catalina, Apple split the main drive into two volumes: System and Data. ChronoSync 10 contains many features and fixes most notably simple bootable backups for Big Sur and Monterey, iCloud support, and custom Archive location.ĬhronoSync 10 features the return of the simple Bootable Backups for Big Sur and Monterey.
#Chronosync move files update#
This major update contains full support for macOS 12 Monterey, and runs natively on both Apple silicon and Intel-based Mac computers.

ChronoSync has been the best syncing software on the Mac for a long time and it is great to see it evolve with macOS. My congratulations to Econ Technologies for releasing ChronoSync 10.
